Adultery

Sexual intercourse between two persons who are not legally mar-ried，it was condemned by Old Testament law codes and seen as harmful to family welfare (Ex. 20： 14). Adultery was not seen as a sinful act against thewoman，but as a violation of the husband's right to sole sexual union with his wife. Jesus changed this slightly to indicate that adultery is a sinful act a-gainst the woman. Jesus also moved beyond simply committing the act，toteach that fantasizing about committing the act is destructive to the image ofthe other person in one's own mind，thus it also is sinful. The Old Testament Law prescribed punishment by stoning to death for both persons (Deut. 22：22).
