Amos

Prophet of Israel (746 BCE)，native of small town of Tekoah，southof Bethlehem. By trade he was a herdsman and tender of sycamore fruit，thus usually being identified as a poor man. He became so upset with the so-cial，moral，political and spiritual corruption in the land that he spoke out in avery dramatic way. He is recognized as beginning a new style of Hebrewprophecy with his dynamic statements of condemnation. Amos linked reli-gious faith with the moral expression of one's life，proclaiming that one can-not worship God and mistreat people. Righteousness for Amos meant bothright relationship to God in complete loyalty，and right relationships with hu-manity in social behavior.
